The service is delivered under a private PGD.

-Please ensure the staff member presents with photo ID or proof of council employment. Council /School staff may call the pharmacy to book an appointment, please advise them when your staff are available to administer the vaccine.

Please note that there are no voucher requirements this year, all that is needed to access is proof of ID.

If you are not yet registered and are wanting to provide the service via a private flu vaccination service,  you will need to register on the CHEST portal in line with the other locally commissioned services.

For any queries around the CHEST, please e-mail Alyson.Delin@WestmorlandandFurness.gov.uk.

The comms are as follows:

Look after yourself this winter- Book your flu jab now!

From 1st October all council employees and school staff can obtain a free seasonal influenza vaccine (‘flu jab’) via any participating local pharmacy on production of your photo ID badge. It helps to reduce queues and speed up the process if you give the pharmacy a call first to check they have enough vaccine available. You do not need to take along any forms or vouchers.

If you have been offered a flu jab on the NHS it’s fine to have it at the pharmacy if that’s more convenient for you but please do let the pharmacist know you are eligible for an NHS jab so they can accurately record it on your NHS health record.

Flu facts:

  • Flu is much more than just a ‘bad cold’ and can lead to serious illness, hospital admission or even death for vulnerable individuals.
  • Up to 50% of people may have flu without symptoms but will unknowingly pass it on to others who may be more vulnerable and become very poorly.
  • The flu vaccine is safe and effective. The vaccine is inactive and cannot give you flu. The vaccine takes approximately 2 weeks to provide immunity.
  • Most people will experience nothing worse than a slightly sore arm and tiredness for a day or so after their jab.
  • Flu infections generally peak just before Christmas each year. The ideal time to get your vaccine is before the end of November to make sure flu doesn’t spoil your festive celebrations.
  • Your family may also benefit from getting a flu vaccine too- many people are eligible for a free NHS flu vaccine such as:
    • children aged 2-18 years can have a painless nasal flu vaccine spray (at the GP or pharmacy for 2-3 year olds and at school for older children)
    • those aged 65 and older
    • people with a health condition which can affect their immune system such as diabetes, kidney or liver disease, heart or breathing problems, etc.
    • pregnant women
  • For those not eligible for a flu jab via the NHS or through their employer, most pharmacies offer flu vaccinations at a reasonable cost- chat to your GP surgery or pharmacist for further information or visit the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/flu-vaccine/
